Riesling 2012 wins Gold at the 2016 Sydney International Wine Competition.

'Best Riesling from New Zealand' at the 2015 Canberra International Riesling Challenge, picking up the New Zealand High Commission Perpetual Trophy. Zephyr Riesling 2014 was the only NZ Riesling to earn Elite Gold (equal to or better than 96/100pts).

Zephyr Riesling 2014 won the Champion Riesling Trophy and a gold medal at the 2015 International Aromatic Competition, held in October each year in Christchurch. Read the press release here

Another great result from Cuisine Magazine for the 2014 Zephyr Riesling
#2 in Top 10 - Earthy, broom flower florals give this dry wine a slightly 'sauvage' dimension. In the mouth, the racy acids take you on a great ride through colourful splashes of citrus and apple. It was made by winemaker Ben Glover, who also had a hand in our eighth-placed riesling.

It's up, up and away for Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2012.
This wine has once again been selected for Air New Zealand's Business Premier and Premium Economy Classes. Owen and Wendy Glover, the producers, and Ben Glover, the winemaker, are delighted that their Dillons Point, Marlborough wine, once again, is to be poured for New Zealand's premier international airline. Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc has classic Dillons Point sub-regional characters of lemongrass, fennel, nettles and rockmelon; engaging, ethereal and elegant. 2012 was a year that delivered beautiful texture and crisp ripe acidity that will continue to seduce the senses for years to come. Just the thing for the savvy traveller.

Zephyr Gewurztraminer 2012 has been awarded the trophy for Champion Gewurztraminer at the 2013 Bragato wine awards.
Owen Glover, grower and viticulturalist for Zephyr, was thrilled to receive the trophy, the first trophy for Zephyr and Glover Family Vineyards. "This award reaffirms the growing reputation of the Dillons Point sub-region and the aromatic characters expressed in the fruit from our vineyard. This is up the there with having a great family and Marlborough winning the Ranfurly Sheild in 1973. We are proud to have Ben, our son, as winemaker, and the other three kids giving valuable support." Ben Glover, winemaker, says of the wine, "On the edge and definitely a wine that can work the room. All that spice with a story that keeps you listening long into the night. Gewurz vines entering their 20's."

The trophy and the Gewurztraminer sits in pride of place on the kitchen table to be accompanied with Wendy's homemade gingerbread and quince The wine is fragrant on the nose with musk and spice, whilst on the palate is extroverted and dynamic amid floral, spiced quince, oily and lush flavours.

Bragato Wine Awards
This wine show is held each year and recognises the grower and viticulturalist in the crafting of fine wines. Romeo Bragato (1858-1912) is of significant influence to the New Zealand wine industry as he was dedicated to viticulture expertise with a strong focus on excellence in the vineyard. This year there were 495 entries of which 51 Gold, 107 Silver and 181 Bronze were awarded. Trophies are awarded to the top wine from each varietal class judged.

Ben comes home to Zephyr
Zephyr wines are excited to announce that Ben Glover will be taking a hands-on role in the family wine business. After 15 vintages at Wither Hills Vineyards Ben has hung up his boots, prior to Christmas 2012, as their Chief Winemaker.

The next stage in Ben's wine-life is as Group Winemaker at New Zealand Vineyard Estates, which includes the Mud House and Waipara Hills brands. This change will also allow Ben to concentrate on the family owned wine company 'Glover Family Vineyards' and the 'Zephyr' wine brand. The Zephyr wine brand was established in 2007 by the Glover family after 22 years of grape growing on their Dillon's Point Road Vineyard. So Ben's involvement with Zephyr will no longer be just 'around the kitchen table', but more fully immersed in Glover Family Vineyards and Zephyr.

"I have always wanted to express the exquisite refined bouquet, the precise structure and the 'line' of these aromatic wines from our farm. Zephyr allows me to do this - winegrowing is a natural expression and extension of what our family and I have done on this property for years and the opportunity to pay them back with home grown, world class wines is too good to be true," says Ben.

Zephyr is due to release its latest vintage of single vineyard aromatic wines in March, a vintage, Ben says, that perfectly profiles the exquisite purity of the Glover Family Vineyards in Dillons Point, Marlborough.

Visit from Alliance Wines.
In early May, we were very pleased to host Matt Sullivan of Alliance Wine and three guests from the U.K.; Matthew Cocks of Cubitt House, Nick Hamby of Firmdale Hotels and Paulo Brammerof ETB group.
The 'boys' were shown the joys of fishing in the Marlborough Sounds. Cod, shark, gurnard, kawhai , maori chief (aka jock stewart) and the big nuisance, barracuda, were all part of the day's catch. The Autumn weather was sublime, the dolphins displayed their expertise and we enjoyed a big feed of fish with our Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2010.
That evening we tasted the full portfolio of Zephyr wines; Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir, and enjoyed some great Marlborough produce to complement them; mussels, salmon, lamb, cheeses and fruit.
The 2012 ferment was tasted at the Glover Family Vineyard on the banks of the Opawa river (Marlborough's Dordogne!). Our guests were great fun, and we hope to catch up again with them when we are next in the UK.,,,

Zephyr wines was pleased to host our new distributor in The Netherlands; Jean Arnaud. The CEO of Jean Arnaud, Jean Marc van de Kant, was travelling with Pieter Nijdam, wine writer with De Telegraf, Ronald de Groot of Perswijn Wine magazine and Andre Koopman, marketing manager of Groupe LFE. They were terrific guests and we had a great night.
The journalists are collaborating for a supplement edition in Perswijn. Perswijn is the biggest independent Dutch wine magazine in the Benelux countries that manages to reach over 25.000 readers with a printing run of 12.000 copies. It is the only, originally Dutch, wine magazine, which is written explicitly for the consumer. Thanks to its quality, Perswijn is also an important and leading wine magazine for professionals in business and restaurant industry.

In April, Zephyr wines were shown at a tasting at Jean Arnaud of our range of wines for journalists, press and on-trade in their 'Maison du Vin' in Tilburg.

As serious and passionate Riesling producers, Zephyr wine is rapt to be involved in NZ's first summer of Riesling. 2012 will be our 4th Zephyr Riesling produced and is sure to be a 'great one' following on from previous, successful and succulent vintages. The Summer of Riesling is a worldwide movement that encourages the consumption, discussion and enjoyment of Riesling. This summer sees the movement bought to New Zealand for the first time, and with it New York founder Paul Grieco.
The Summer of Riesling began at Terroir Wine Bar in the East Village of New York City in 2008 as a single-minded attempt to get guests to at least try this noble grape. Throughout the entire summer only Riesling was offered by the glass as the white wine pour. It began a revolution, which saw wine bars & restaurants highlight and feature Riesling in a myriad of ways throughout Summer. The movement became international - Australia is about to begin its second Summer of Riesling.
The New Zealand Summer of Riesling kicked off on January 12th and is supported by some of New Zealand's best Riesling producing wineries, restaurants, wine bars and retailers.
So fill your glass with Zephyr Riesling and toast to the 'Summer of Riesling'.

Flagship Wines visit Zephyr
Zephyr wines were pleased to host Julia Jenkins, owner of UK retailer Flagship Wines on Sunday 15th of January and her colleague, Will Bartholomew. Flagship Wines is the winner of the New Zealand Winegrowers Independent Wine Merchants Promotion in the UK for 2010.
Julia and Will joined us at our bach in the Marlborough Sounds where we tasted Zephyr Wines and enjoyed a long lunch of Marlborough produce. We teamed the Moules mariniere with Zephyr Riesling, the whitebait, gravlax, and blue cod with Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc and finished off with Zephyr Gewurztraminer accompanied by washed rind cheeses, gingerbread, blue cheese and quince paste. Yummy lunch, and very enjoyable company.
Flagship Wines is an innovative and exciting wine company offering distinctive wines from around the world and specialising in the New World. Owner Julia Jenkins, the Director has more than 20 years experience in the wine trade and she has been running her own business for nearly 10 years. Whilst Flagship Wines has a retail store based in St Albans, their on-line presence is extremely strong and they also have a large wholesale focus servicing many of the local restaurants, bars and pubs. According to Oz Clarke they are "a well-run independent whose prices can match those of supermarkets-and you get the friendly well-informed advice of boss Julia Jenkins thrown in for free". In winning the UK Independent Retail Merchants Promotion, Flagship beat 92 other retailers, raising their NZ wine sales by 65% and impressing the judges with their innovative marketing.

Four star review in Cuisine
The panel was blown away by this not-so-gentle zephyr. Full and rich, it delivers bright leafy, citrus and tropical-fruit notes and a strong textural presence. A rich seafood risotto would be a good match.
Cuisine also included a small bio about us.
FITS LIKE A GLOVER : The name Zephyr breezed in during a Glover family brainstorming session. Owen and Wendy Glover had been talked into launching their own label by sons Jack and Ben (both of whom work in the industry, Ben as wine maker at Wither Hills). "We said we're far too old to do such a thing, but they were adamant," says Wendy. "Then the name just popped up, we all liked it, and as Owen has fond memories of Sunday drives in his grandfather's Zephyr, it meant something to him." The Zephyr's first vintage was 2007. The Glovers have grown grapes at Dillon Point in Marlborough since 1985 and only a small portion of their fruit Is used for the boutique Zephyr label, which also includes a gewurztraminer, a riesling and a pinot noir.

Zephyr Wine is Flying High - It's up, up and away for Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2010, which has been selected for Air New Zealand's Business Premier and Premium Economy Classes. Selecting wines for drinking in-flight takes special care as there are unique conditions to consider. Twice a year, the judges conduct blind wine tastings to select the perfect wines for each class on Air New Zealand. Glover Family Vineyards, the producers, are delighted to be considered the perfect tipple for New Zealand's premier international airline. On the palate the wine has guava, melon and ripe tangerine which provide textural complexity along with bright herbaceous acidity, leaving a long mouth filling structured wine. Just the thing for the savvy traveller!!

Zephyr Riesling 2009, produced by Glover Family Vineyards, has been awarded a Top 100/Blue-Gold in the 2011 Sydney International Wine Competition. This is a single vineyard wine grown in the Dillons Point area of Marlborough.
"A lovely youthful Riesling displaying lemon pith, floral and green apple characters on the nose. The palate is delicate and pure, showing a finely textured mouthfeel and bright acidity providing both structure and length of flavour. A beautifully poised wine destined to develop greater intensity and complexity, although it's pretty good drinking already. Now till 2015."

This award entitles the Zephyr Riesling 2009 to wear the Competition's trademark double-disc, gold-foil "BLUE-GOLD/TOP1OO - Judged with Food" bottle medallion. TOP 1OO Wines carry the distinction of being placed amongst the, approximately, highest pointed 5% of wines from the thirteen Style Categories of the 2010 Competition.

And in other awards news - the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc won Silver at Decanter World Wine Awards 2010 and Bronze at the International Wine Challenge 2010. Whilst the Gewurztraminer 2008 won Bronze at Decanter World Wine awards 2010.

"Seasons of mist and mellow fruitfulness!" (Keats)

Stunning conditions are present for our harvest as we indulge in a gentle and kind Autumn. Everyone is very excited about the weather and the flavours . The weather has been very mild, hardly any rain although there were a couple of small frosts. The Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on Easter Sunday and the Zephyr Gewurztraminer was handpicked a week later. The Zephyr Riesling should be picked this week.

Zephyr wines were proud to be poured at the launch of our daughter Kate's second book, "Papa's Jandals" in Queenstown on 25/3/10.

Kate's first book was "Papa's donuts", Papa being Kate's Cook Island father-in law, Boy, now deceased. The books are great and are a first in NZ/Pacific Island children's literature. Kate and Teaukura (Media Sports Photographer) have three beautiful daughters and Anika features in the first book. Check out Kate's website
