Awards & Reviews
2022 vintage
4.5 stars | Winestate
This single-vineyard wine is attractively scented and strongly varietal. Full-bodied, it has vibrant pear, lychee and spice flavours, fractional sweetness, and excellent depth, delicacy and harmony

Any recipe that front-foots it with fennel instantly has me probing, prying and pursuing the perkiest bottle of Pinot Gris within reach. Winemaker Ben Glover has delivered a deliciously dry example that roars with classic strudel spices, poached quince characters and juicy nashi niceness. Generously proportioned and ultra-long on the finish, it’s a champion with this chicken dish.
92 /100 | Candice Chow
Bright, even, pale straw-yellow. Gentle aromas are lifting from the glass, penetrating sweet floral, Nashi pear, apple sherbet and a hint of white spice. Medium-bodied, Nashi pear, apple and citrus with zesty reflection interweave white spice and pear blossom. The acidity is crisp with good fruit ripeness balance, leaving a refreshing palate. A silky grip of fine phenolics adds to the palate line. This is a crisp and textural Pinot Gris with sweet fruit and floral details. Match with spring rolls and pork tacos over the next 3-4 years. Fermented to 13% alc, 4 g/l RS.

The characterful 2021 vintage (4.5*) is a single-vineyard wine, grown in the lower Wairau Valley. Bright, light lemon/green, it is fresh and full-bodied, with good concentration of stonefruit and spice flavours, and an off-dry, very harmonious finish
93/100 | Cameron Douglas, MS
Fragrant and fruity, varietal and gently spicy with aromas of brown pears and apple, some elderflower and white pepper suggestions alongside scents of soil and spring. A soft satin cream texture allows focus on the core of fruit before contrasting acidity kicks in refreshing the palate for the next sip. Fruity, fresh and delicious with decent length and persistent flavours.
93/100 | Wine Rater
Lifted, complex nose with appealing aromas of plantain banana, berry/pear cider, rose petals, sage and thyme. Surprisingly restrained, dry and textural after the lifted nose with good richness, acid balance and a long finish. A good food style.
2019 vintage
91/100 | James Suckling
A light bronze tinge to this with attractive, fresh apples and pears and a vibrant, softly fleshy core of pear and poached-apple flavor. Bright, soft and easy. Drink now. Screw cap.
4.5 stars | Yvonne Lorkin
With its soft, rose-gold hue, quince, 5-spice and fresh pear aromatics and its zesty, perky mid-palate, it’s a beautifully balanced, fresh and frisky style of Pinot Gris that’ll have the whole table buzzing from the first pour (that’s if you’re up for sharing it). Clean, perky and heaving with personality – it’s an apple-edged, textural style that really satisfies

90/100 | Bob Campbell MW – Mar 2019
Off-dry, weighty and quite textural Pinot Gris with a mix of stone fruit, pear and nectarine with bread and ginger yeast lees characters. Nicely balanced with very fine tannins that give a dry, but not drying finish.

Bright, light golden yellow colour with some depth, showing a sugggestion of blush, lighter on the rim. The nose is full with well-concentrated and packed aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and exotic florals, unfolding notes of rose-petals, spices and honeysuckle, and subtle nutty, lees elements at the core. Dry to taste and medium bodied, the fruit is rounded and lends pleanty of palate presence with soft, mouthfilling flavours of yellow stonefruits melded with an amalgam of tropical fruits, exotic florals, honeysuckle adn subtle nutty nuances. The mouthfeel is balanced with softly fresh, underlying acidity and the fruit builds in richness to show a degree of unctiousness. The wine carries to a soft, gently full finish of yellow stonefrtuis, honey and nuts. Serve with poultry and pork, and with semi soft cheeses over the next 4 years.
89/100 | Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier – 2017
Ripe, fruity, fleshy and loaded with aromas of white peach and pear, yellow apple and honeysuckle. On the palate- equally fleshy and fruity with flavours that reflect the nose, medium+ acidity, balanced warming alcohol, a hint of white pepper and quince, lengthy plump finish. Great balance adn well made.
